FAQs

What genres and tropes do you work with the most?

I enjoy fairytale retellings, dystopian, fantasy, and sci-fi—very much the speculative fiction vibes. Give me all the series with the heroes and the falling in love and the adventure and the torment . . . if it’s a little dark and twisty, I’m here for it too!! While I don’t read a lot of smut, I do enjoy some light romance, think Hallmark or Lifetime movies with a little extra. That being said, I have made exceptions in the past depending on what kind of edits you’re looking for and have worked on dark romantasy and “smut”. The best way to know if your manuscript would be a good fit is to message me or send me an email.

When it comes to tropes, there aren’t many that I’d pass on. Enemies to lovers? Check. Friends to lovers? Check. Fake dating? Check. She’s the villain? Check! He’s not who he says he is? Check. He falls first? Check. Found family? Check. Like . . . really . . . just send me your book HAHAHA.

What genres or tropes will you not edit?

I’m pretty open-minded when it comes to stories, however, I do not recommend submitting any erotic novels, poetry, non-fiction, biographies, or anything too smutty. If your novel’s plot is based on open-door romance, it is not for me (but I do know an amazing editor who lives for this so let me know if you need one!). I also tend to stay away from horror or darker psychological thrillers. This is because I have enough anxiety I’m dealing with and the last thing I need is to have nightmares or panic attacks while editing your book HAHA. Sorry! I’m sure it’s amazing though!

Do you offer sample edits?

YES! You are welcome to reach out and request a sample edit before making any commitments. For a novel, I request 3-5k words.

NOTE: I do not offer editing samples as I do my best to keep my client work as secure as possible. I am happy to edit your book and showcase what I can help you with, but I will not send you a sample of someone else’s project.

What style or editing guide do you follow?

While I was trained with MLA and Chicago (heyy Oxford comma!) I am willing to adjust my editing guide to suite your personal writing style. Do you prefer parts of AP along with Chicago? No problem! Do you use UK standard for somethings and US for other? SURE! I got you! Just let me know along the way and I can adjust to your specific needs.

Where do you complete edits?

I prefer to use Google Doc to track any and all changes made in a manuscript, but I do use Microsoft Word as well. I do not work in Pages.

What is your background and certifications?

Not only am I a writer, but I produced a thirteen-story anthology from start to finish in 2023 (Chaos & Curses) for An Unexpected Bookshop, and have provided developmental edits for author friends over the past five years. This has granted me hands on experience with the entire editing and publishing process. I also have a Bachelors Degree in English and in Education, a certificate in Editing from Poynter, and continue my education and skills through the Freelance Editorial Association.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! If you need to make payment arrangements, I’m happy to do so! When you receive your contract there will be payment options. However, if they do not fit your needs, I’m happy to chat and find a plan that will work for you and your budget.

How long do edits take to be completed?

The timeline for edits will vary depending on wordcount and type. This will all be discussed before a contract is settled. You can find estimated timelines under individual packages or services.

Do you use AI programs to edit?

Not at all. Any edits and suggestions made are from me, a real human being. No AI will be used to edit your document or to enhance your writing.

What sizes can you format a print book to?

Any size you need! I can offer suggestions based on your genre and printer if you aren’t sure though.

Will I be able to alter the formatted file after you’ve completed it?

I can provide a docx file of your format upon request, however, it may not transfer with all the details as the pdf or keep a consistent format throughout. If you need to make changes to the manuscript, I’m happy to do that for you at any time and at no additional cost. You just have to email me to let me know! I keep any formatted manuscript “active” in my program for six months so that if you do find any errors they can be fixed. After that, it is transferred to a secure hard drive and cannot be changed.

I’d like to be a BETA reader for some of your authors. How can I?

You can fill out the intake form under the BETA tab and get on the list :) You’ll be emailed whenever a new beta read is available to see if you’d be interested.
